Results

The success of our programs is demonstrated by our 4% rate of recidivism which is far lower than the 30% rate statewide, as reported by NY State Department of Corrections. It is at Hour Children that women are given the opportunity to further their education and time to explore other choices. Our daycare/nursery school programs leave mom worry-free to explore employment and educational opportunities.


Programs


Hour Children is unique in its style of program delivery, since we begin working with women while they are still in prison, bringing their children to visit and offering the mothers advocacy, parenting and domestic violence, support groups and counseling to ease their transition to reunification with their children. Hour Children offers both prison-based and community-based programs, including:

Key Partners

Collaboration and networking are key to Hour Children's ability to offer programs and services with a limited budget. Our work in Taconic is funded solely by the New York State Department of Corrections. We collaborate with the New York State Division of Parole, Volunteer Lawyers Project, the Coalition for Women Prisoners, Osborne Association, Administration for Children's Services, Women's Prison Association, Goodwill, Providence House, East River Development Association, College Initiative, Project Strive, Workeforce1, New York City Coalition Against Hunger, Corporation for Supportive Housing and Supportive Housing Network of New York.
